Every year we can mark our calendars in the cybersecurity industry by two events, RSA Conference and Black Hat. Well RSA Conference 2018 has come and gone, and Veridium was there to showcase our new Authenticator App and multi factor biometric authentication platform.
Every year the moods of the vendors shift, with a few overarching themes made very clear as you walked the expo halls. Take a look at a few of the key highlights, and what you should take away from them.
GDPR Compliance
You couldn’t walk 20 feet at this year’s RSA Conference without seeing a sign boasting GDPR compliance software or overhearing someone talking about the upcoming regulation deadline (May 25). It was a leading topic of conversation throughout the event, but of course, if you asked anyone if they were ready for it the answers were less definitive. Few companies are ready for GDPR compliance, and even the firms offering solutions to help are tackling the problem from different angles.
The GDPR deadline is looming, and if you aren’t prepared already you need to understand the ins and outs quickly.
Malware & Ransomware
Another key topic this year should come as no surprise, as it has been a highlight at nearly every RSA Conference the last few years. The rising threat of malware and ransomware, be it fileless attacks or zero-day exploits, continues to give enterprises cause for alarm. Vendors are always quick to showcase their capabilities in this area, from early detection to deterrence, and of course, many of the visitors are also keen to discuss this topic.
Of course, the execution of malware or ransomware is usually focused on a single area, compromising data, and a key way to prevent this is to improve security in other areas, such as access management and employee training.
Seamless Authentication
It seems the crux of security in 2018 is seamless strong authentication. It may come as no surprise that many visitors at RSA Conference were looking for better ways to authenticate their end users, creating a stronger user experience, streamlined authentication process, and improved security. The main battle that many people we spoke with reported was making sure their employees actually take advantage of strong authentication solutions, rather than bypassing them because they’re inconvenient or confusing.
Of course, these weren’t the only things to take away from RSA Conference 2018, but in order to get the full scoop, you have to attend. We hope to see you at RSA Conference 2019.
