EU encryption backdoor options for messaging apps set for June

The European Commission plans to unveil “three or four” approaches that would give law enforcement access to encrypted messaging application data in June. Those options will range from voluntary cooperation to enacting laws to require messaging providers to open encryption backdoors to law enforcement authorities. However, many experts, like Veridium CPO John Spencer, believe such legislation is unlikely to come to pass.
